Sarah Janes, Psy.D.

DoctorDr. Sarah Janes joined the practice in the fall of 2012. After completing her postdoctoral fellowship at Communicare in Elizabethtown, KY, Dr. Janes was hired as a clinical psychologist staff member with the children’s treatment team. She has extensive experience collaborating with a variety of disciplines to deliver therapeutic treatment for many emotional and behavioral disorders. Additionally, she has a strong background in psychological assessments with children, including toddler and preschool populations, and assessments for developmental disabilities, behavior and attachment disorders. Dr. Janes enjoys working with children and families dealing with various presenting problems including adjustment disorders, mood disturbances, anxiety disorders and Attention Deficit/Hyperactive Disorder. She also enjoys working with children with developmental delays. Dr. Janes’ approach to therapy emphasizes a solution-focused, family-systems approach to help the child/teenager identify and further develop their individual strengths. She encourages family participation as well as utilization of support within the community.

Dr. Janes completed her undergraduate course work at Western Kentucky University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 2005. She earned her Master of Arts from Spalding University in Clinical Psychology in 2007 and her Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from Spalding University in 2010. The focus of her doctoral studies was child, adolescent, family and health psychology, with an emphasis on empirically supported interventions. During her graduate training, Dr. Janes’ clinical training experiences included Communicare, Jefferson County School System and Frazier Rehab Institute. While in graduate school she served as a research assistant at Frazier Rehab Institute for a grant-funded study assessing treatment outcomes for cardiac and pulmonary patients. Dr. Janes’ dissertation further explored self-efficacy, goal-setting behaviors and mental health symptoms for cardiac patients in various rehabilitation hospitals across the country.

She completed her pre-doctoral internship in Hazard, KY at the Appalachian Rural Consortium. While on internship Dr. Janes provided services to children and families experiencing a variety of emotional and behavioral issues as well as individuals dealing with the effects of trauma. She also delivered therapy services and psychological assessments to children admitted to the Sewell Center Crisis Unit, where she received specialized training in working with rural families and other underserved populations.
